For those listening to Obama’s acceptance speech of being Elected US President, he repeated (as well as the Chicago audience) the phase “Yes we can” on taking on the coming challenges.


However, this phrase is borrowed from the Spanish translation “Si se puede” popularized by Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers in the 1960’s.


And of course, the beginnings of the United Farm Workers has its roots in the Filipino-started Delano grape strike of 1965 led by Philip Vera Cruz.
